Two people were taken into custody early Wednesday morning after an hours-long standoff at a motel in Bremen.

It all started around 1 a.m. when members of the Clayton County Fugitive Task Force came to arrest a suspect for a crime that took place several weeks ago. They tracked him to the Motel 6 on Highway 27 in Bremen.

Clayton County investigators notified Bremen Police of what was going on, and Bremen Police also responded to the scene.

Investigators said when they went into the motel and tried to arrest the suspect, he fired several shots at the officers. No law enforcement officers were struck.

The suspect then barricaded himself inside a motel room. That's when authorities called in a SWAT team from Paulding County and negotiators finally got the man to surrender just before 5 a.m. Wednesday. He was taken into custody and loaded into an ambulance.

Police also took a woman into custody. No word yet on her involvement.

A number of motel guests were forced to evacuate during the SWAT standoff. Those witnesses told FOX 5 News they heard two gunshots.
