Police: Thousands stolen in home invasion
ATLANTA - Several men saving cash for a new home were robbed in the middle of the night.
Atlanta police say the gunmen struck early Wednesday morning in the 1800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in southwest Atlanta. Police say the victim left his mother's house on Old National just after midnight. When he got home, two men got out of a white vehicle and forced him into his upstairs apartment. They then pulled out assault-style weapons, according to police.
The home invaders demanded the victim and his roommates hand over cash and the keys to the victim's SUV. The gunmen then fled in the white vehicle they arrived in as well as the victim's SUV.
Arriving officers put a lookout for the stolen SUV. Not long after, it was located about a mile away, ditched in the 1400 block of Donnelly Avenue. Police processed the vehicle hoping to identify the gunmen. One wore a mask, and the other is described as a light-skinned black man with a beard.
Investigators tell us the home invaders kicked one of the victims, but he didn't need to go to the hospital. They also say the men were pooling their money to move to a new apartment, and now find themselves out between $4,000 and $5,000.
