Police are investigating a shooting Wednesday morning that left a DeKalb County couple injured.

The shooting took place around 7:15 a.m. at an apartment complex located in the 3900 block of Covington Highway. Police said they are currently searching for 30-year-old Quantus Cade for the shooting.

Family members told FOX 5 News that Takiyah Butler and her boyfriend Roderick Peters went outside their unit to smoke. One of their neighbors was in the hallway with a gun and tried to ram his way into their apartment, according to witnesses. That's when the suspect fired shots.

Police said in a news release the couple, both in their twenties, was sitting in the stairwell when the man walked up and made no demands and began shooting for no apparent reason.

Family members said Butler was hit in the face and Peters was struck in the leg.

Neighbors said the gunman's weapon jammed and he ran off into the woods.

The couple, who just had a baby one month ago, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The baby is currently with neighbors.

Police are working to find Cade. Police said Cade is charged with 2 counts of aggravated assault.
