Police: Man tripped crossing Tara Blvd, killed by van

A man is dead after a traffic accident involving a pedestrian, according to the Clayton County Sheriff's Office. The incident occurred on Tara Blvd at Valley Hill Road.

61-year-old Edward Winston, of North Carolina, was killed after tripping on the raised asphalt in the southbound lanes outside of the crosswalk, according to authorities.

Police say Winston crossed the northbound lanes of Tara Blvd outside of the crosswalk, and then tripped after reaching the center median. He fell into the southbound lanes of traffic.

The man was struck by a Ford Econoline van and killed. Winston was in Atlanta visiting his sister. There are no charges pending in the incident.

Responding officers located Winston, who had suffered severe head trauma lying in the roadway. Clayton County Fire and Emergency Services responded and determined that the male was deceased on the scene.
