Police in Sandy Springs said their officers were forced to open fire on a man who rammed two police cars, nearly striking an officer.

It happened around 8:40 p.m. in the parking lot of the Courtyard by Marriott Atlanta Perimeter Center located at 6250 Peachtree Dunwoody Road. Sandy Springs Police Sgt. Sam Worsham said officers were in the area conducting an investigation. That investigation led them to the individual in the parking lot.

Police said the suspect, 22-year old Jaquan Barnes, attempted to flee from the scene, ramming the officer’s vehicle in the process. Meanwhile, police said a second officer arrived in a cruiser, trying to block Barnes in from behind. Police said he rammed that vehicle as well, nearly hitting the officers.

That’s when police said the officers were forced to open fire, striking Barnes in the hand.

Barnes was taken into custody and transported to WellStar North Fulton Hospital. He is in stable condition

After an investigation, the GBI said that Barnes was wanted in South Carolina for aggravated assault. Once he's released from the hospital, officials say he'll be turned over to the Fulton County Sheriff's Office.

Sandy Springs Police said they asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to the scene to conduct a thorough investigation of the officer-involved shooting.
