Police: Man found dead in middle of Clayton County road

Clayton County Police need the public’s help to solve a murder mystery.

Investigators told FOX 5 News residents of a neighborhood in an unincorporated Riverdale first heard gunshots then discovered a mortally wounded man in the middle of the street.

“I heard a couple of shots and when I walked outside there was a man laying on the ground,” said a young man who did not his face shown.

He said he and others found the victim face down on Wilson Road outside his family’s home around 7 p.m. Monday.

Clayton County Police said by the time emergency personnel responded to the neighborhood, 53-year-old William Bonhart, had died from multiple gunshot wounds.

“Right now, it’s a mystery, yes, homicide mystery,” said Captain Scott Stubbs.

He said investigators are trying to determine exactly how and why Bonhart got to the area.

Captain Stubbs told FOX 5 News a man was seen running back to a black sedan, believed to be Bonhart’s 2009 Chevy Impala.

“A black Impala had left the area with a male subject running back to it. The vehicle then left the area. We believe that was his car, yes,” said Captain Stubbs.

He said the black Chevrolet Impala belonging to William Bonhart was discovered abandoned in Atlanta. And that crime scene investigators were scouring it for evidence.

“We have no actual witness to the gunshots being fired and striking him,” said Captain Stubbs.

Lorenzo Faust is still coming to grips with the magnitude of the murder which occurred so near to his home in a neighborhood full of children.

“I pray that justice will be served for the family, for the family’s sake,” said Faust.

Captain Stubbs said William Bonhart was last seen leaving his job near Hartsfield Jackson International Airport. But he did not know what kind of job it was. Bonhart he was from the Fayetteville area.
