ATLANTA - A delivery driver is recovering Wednesday morning after being shot in northeast Atlanta.
It happened around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday at the corner of Mellrich and Wisteria avenues. According to police, a man was delivering Chinese food from the Hunan Dragon III off Clairmont Road to a vacant house. Investigators said he met a woman in the driveway and then was ambushed by several men. Investigators said the delivery man was shot in the back.
Police said the delivery driver was armed and shot back, striking one of the suspects in the leg. That suspect was arrested in a grassy alley a short distance away from the scene.
Investigators recovered two handguns and several shell casings.
Both delivery man and suspect were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.
Investigators said the initial food request was fake for the purpose of robbing the delivery man.
Police are now searching for two females and one male. Anyone with information is asked to call the Atlanta Police Department.
