Officials have ruled that a man and woman found dead in a Gwinnett County apartment Monday afternoon were the result of a murder-suicide.

Officers were called to the Preston Hills Apartments on Buford Drive around 3 p.m. when family members asked officers to do a welfare check.

"Family members of the deceased female hadn't talked to her in a couple of days, that was odd, they usually talked daily and became concerned," said Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Wilbert Rundles.

When officers went into the 4th-floor apartment, they found 39-year-old Lachica Ringwood and 40-year-old Jamaya Morris dead.

From the evidence at the scene, police say they believe Ringwood was shot by Morris, who then killed himself with a gun.

Police don't know how long the couple had been inside the apartment dead, but say the last time family members had any contact was two days ago.

Meshele Snyder was stunned when she saw a Crime Scene van parked at her apartment complex.  She watched as investigators went in and out of one of the units as they tried to find answers to the deaths of the couple.

"It's crazy I can't believe someone was actually murdered here," said Snyder.

Brody Snyder said they live close enough that they should have heard something, especially a gunshot.

"To think that could get by with us being that close, it's kind of scary," said Snyder.

Anyone with information in the case should call GCPD detectives at 770-513-5300 or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477).
