The Athens-Clarke County Police Department is expected to release body camera footage of a deadly police shooting on Monday.

The shooting happened in the 1000 block of Macon Highway, according to police.

Athens-Clarke County Police Chief Cleveland Spruill said police were called to the highway by reports of a man with a knife who was covered in blood and acting erratically.

When officers found the man, identified as 23-year-old Aaron Hong, Spruill said they commanded him to drop the knife and he began to advance on them.

At one point, police say Hong ran at the officers. That's when two officers fired rounds, hitting him and sending him to the ground.

Paramedics treated the Hong on the scene, but he succumbed to the bullet wounds and died.

Officials said that officers sustained minor injuries that were treated at the scene. They have all been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation also responded to the scene.

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department is holding a news conference at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday to release body camera footage from the shooting. The police department said they'll also share additional details about the shooting, including the names of the officers who were involved.
