Officers are investigating a death that happened on Chamblee Tucker Road overnight. (FOX 5)
CHAMBLEE, Ga. - A man is facing charges after police said he admitted to hitting and killing a pedestrian on Chamblee Tucker Road late Sunday night.
What we know:
Chamblee police said officers were called to the stretch of Chamblee Tucker between Buford Highway and Shallowford Road around 9:30 p.m. When they arrived, they found a victim with serious injuries. First responders tried to save the person, but they were pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses told police that the person was trying to walk across Chamblee Tucker Road when they were hit by a white van. The van didn't stop, according to police, but returned to the scene while officers were waiting on the DeKalb County Medical Examiner.
Police said officers read the man, identified as Alan Lazcano-Solano, his rights and he confessed to what happened.
Officers said Lazcano-Solano panicked after hitting the victim and drove home. They said he contacted a friend who drove him back to the scene.
The car involved in the hit-and-run was parked outside Lazcano-Solano's apartment at Chamblee Heights Apartments, officers said. Police went to the apartment and entered it into evidence.
What's next:
Police said officers took samples of Lazcano-Solano's blood and then took him to the DeKalb County Jail.
