Police in Clarke County search for child rape suspect

Athens-Clarke County Police are searching for a child rapist. Police said he attacked a girl in her home not once but twice.

For Lanikki Addison, who has a 9-year old daughter, the thought of a man raping a girl around her child’s age is beyond terrifying.

“I’m afraid, I’m scared,” said Addison. “Because he’s out on the loose.”

Athens-Clarke County Police released a GBI composite drawing of the sexual predator who is unknown to his victim.

“From what the victim told us and the victim’s family told us, from the sketch, they don’t know this person. They don’t know his name. They’ve never had any run-ins with him. There’s no connection,” said Epifanio Rodriguez, a spokesman for the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.

He said the stranger, a black man with a “beefy” build, short hair and a curly beard, broke into the victim’s home northwest of downtown Athens on September 4 then again on November 4.

“Upon entering into the residence, sexually assaulted, raped and molested a juvenile female. There’s no indication on why he’d go back, like I said we don’t know why he’d target this specific person,” said Rodriguez.

He said the victim was not a teenager or toddler, but would not specify her age.

Ignacio Vergara who proudly displays his children with one of those windshield stickers, was shaken at the thought of a child rapist loose in his community.

“No I can't think about it, it’s so bad,” said Vergara.

Athens-Clarke County Police said the sexual predator is about 5 feet, 9 inches tall in his mid-30's with a peculiar trait.

“The only thing that really stands out about him is the possibility he may have crooked teeth,” said Rodriguez.

Now residents in the northwest Athens area want to see the man with the crooked teeth go straight to jail.

“He needs to be caught, he’s very dangerous, very dangerous,” said Addison.

Investigators said there are a number of case specific details they are not releasing to protect the integrity of their investigation and the identity of the victim.
