Atlanta Police have charged 45-year-old Markie Moon after a child in her care arrived at school with a stab wound to his face Wednesday morning.  Investigators said the student's bus driver noticed the wound and notified the school.

The six-year-old Heritage Academy student was taken to Hughes Spalding Children’s Hospital for treatment.

Atlanta Police Lt. Celeste Murphy said Moon told investigators she was disciplining the child.

"She did not admit to stabbing the child in the face or anything like that, she just said she was disciplining the child and she poked him," said Lt. Murphy.

Officers believe the boy was stabbed with some kind of utensil. Investigators retrieved a fork and knife from the home where the incident occurred. Police said the boy's injury was serious enough to require stitches. The wound was near the child's eye.  Atlanta Police said the boy has been returned to the home where the incident occurred.

Moon is charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery and cruelty to children. She was set to appear in court Thursday morning.
