Police announced Friday evening that the search is over for a father accused of abducting his 10-year-old son, who he does not have custody of.

Dederick Floyd, 33, was taken into custody in Riverside, California and has been charged with Felony Interference with Custody, according to authorities. He will be extradited to Georgia.

Police suspected Floyd might flee to California because that is where he's from; thus, Sandy Springs Police worked with the Southern California Special Enforcement Narcotics Unit to close the case.

Sandy Springs Police confirmed Xavier Floyd, 10, is safe and will be returned home to his mother in Sandy Springs.

The search ensued Thursday afternoon, after Floyd entered Woodland Elementary School around 3 p.m. and took his son, Xavier, without authorization, according to investigators.
