A burglary suspect was shot and killed Monday morning after entering a Gwinnett County home, police said.

What we know:

Gwinnett County officers were called to the 2000 block of Redbark Court for a burglary in progress on Monday morning. Investigators said the suspect entered the rear of the home and was confronted by residents inside.

Suspected burglar killed in Gwinnett County

A burglary suspect was shot and killed Monday morning after entering a Gwinnett County home, police said. This is breaking news.

Police surrounded the house with the suspect still inside along with the victims. As officers moved in to arrest him, one of the homeowners shot the man, according to police.

Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators responded to gather evidence and interview witnesses.

What they're saying:

Neighbors described the break-in as unsettling. "That was very surprising," said Frisia Caballero, who lives nearby. "It is scary, you know, especially — it’s like — many houses away? It’s super scary."

Caballero added that the situation shook her sense of security. "Your house is supposed to be your safe zone," she said.

Another neighbor, Krista Basy, said she noticed a heavy police presence as she drove by. "I just saw a lot of police cars," she said. "It’s disturbing because you wouldn’t think that would happen so close to where you live."

Basy said the incident has her thinking about her child’s safety. "It’s just scary, because we have a lot of kids in this neighborhood," she said.

On Tuesday morning, the Gwinnett County Police Department identified the deceased suspect as 25-year-old Kylen Sunday. FOX 5 Atlanta has reached out for a mug shot and additional informaiton.
