Police: Buford man killed after pointing gun at officers

Gwinnett County Police say a man is dead after pointing a gun at officers following a domestic dispute.

Police were called to the home on Suwanee Mill Drive for a domestic dispute just after 4 p.m. Saturday. Investigators say they arrived to find a woman and her daughter in the yard.

The woman's husband appeared a short time later holding a knife, police tell FOX 5.

"The officers told him to drop the knife, at which point the suspect went back into his house and came back out with a handgun" Gwinnett County Police Department spokesman Tae Kim said.

Officers attempted to command the man to put down the weapon. Police say the man ignored the commands then pointed the weapon at officers. We are told one officer fired a single shot, killing the suspect.

The man's wife and adult daughter were nearby when the shooting happened. Police they the two women had also been threatened with the weapons.

The name of the officer involved has not been released, pending the early stages of the investigation.

The case is now being investigated by the GBI.
