Police: APD officer shoots woman attacking man with knife

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is responding to a shooting involving an Atlanta police officer. 

At around 8 a.m. Sunday, police responded to a domestic violence call on the 600 block of Parkway Drive in northeast Atlanta regarding reports woman attacking the father of her children with a knife. 

Upon arrival, an officer found a woman with a knife in her hand in the hallway of the apartment building. According to police, the woman charged the male victim with the knife, trying to stab him. 

In an attempt to stop the attack, investigators said the officer fired once at the woman, striking her. 

The woman was apparently alert, conscious and breathing after the shooting. She was listed in stable condition. The male victim was treated at the scene for his injuries.

Atlanta police said the officer wasn't injured. 

The GBI will investigate the shooting.
