Police: 84-year-old woman tied up in South Philly home invasion

Police say an elderly woman was tied up with a dog leash and belts during a home invasion on the 700 block of South Front in Queen Village.

It happened shortly before 2 p.m. Monday.

According to police, the 84-year-old woman was startled by a man around 30-years-old who broke into the house and demanded money. Cops say she refused so the man ordered her to the basement where she was tied up. The man got her purse and stole money, according to investigators.

Police say the woman was able to break free. She ran outside and yelled "fire" for help to come.

The suspect took off at some point during the ordeal. Now, a normally quiet neighborhood is completely rattled. The suspect is described as a man in his 30's with thin build.
