DeKalb County Police are searching for the person who shot up an apartment and injured a child.

The violence erupted just before 4 a.m. Monday at the Aspen Woods Apartments on Flat Shoals Road.

"I just heard the shots this morning and started ducking for cover," a resident who did not want to be identified told FOX 5's Aungelique Proctor.

Police said when the bullets started flying, one of them stuck an 8-year-old boy who was sleeping in apartment No. 8. The child's grandmother told FOX 5 News the young man received stitches in his chin and was expected to be released from Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston later that night.

Police believe the apartment was targeted but said the shooter may have shot seven rounds into the wrong apartment.

Captain Anthony Ford said police have some leads in the case but are not close to an arrest.
