Peach County jail guard accused of having sex with inmate

FORT VALLEY, Ga. (AP) — A man hired to help guard a Peach County jail has been accused of having sex with an inmate.

Sheriff Terry Deese told news outlets Thursday that 43-year-old Nicholas Hughley, of Macon, is being terminated from his positon after facing two counts of sexual assault and one count of violating his oath as an officer.

Deese says surveillance cameras inside the Peach County Law Enforcement Center show Hughley going into a female inmate's cell and staying there for a while. The jail typically houses about 10 women and 70 men.

Hughley was arrested Wednesday, the day after the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to examine the incident.

It's unclear whether Hughley has an attorney.
