Parents learn Latin Academy is in danger of closing

ATLANTA - Just days after parents learned a million dollar donation might keep a beloved southwest Atlanta charter school open next year; they've been told the school may close after all.

Wednesday night, the Latin Academy School Board was supposed to vote on whether the school, located on Metropolitan Avenue, would reopen next fall. However, parents said that vote was postponed. They also said they're concerned the principal has been placed on paid administrative leave since that pledge was made.

Latin Academy has struggled to overcome serious financial troubles for several months. According to Atlanta Police, a former school executive stole more than $600 thousand from the charter school.

"I feel this school makes me do better, makes me strive for more, it makes me want to do more," said seventh grader Christian Troy in February.

Thursday, middle schoolers planned a walk-out at Latin Academy.

We've been told the vote may come Thursday night.
