Operation Second Chance recently reached its 500th dog adoption!

The Gwinnett County Jail unit celebrated the major milestone Tuesday.

The jail receives dogs from area animal shelter who are at risk of being put down.

Inmate handlers come in three days a week to train the inmates on how to train the dogs.

The initiative started back in 2010.

The organization hopes to more adoptions year after year.
