Old bus terminal on pending list for national registry
SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Savannah's old Atlantic Greyhound Bus Terminal — now known as The Grey restaurant — is on the pending list of the National Register of Historic Places.
A news release by the U.S. Department of the Interior says the building has been nominated for the designation because of its architecture and role in transportation during its "period of significance," which is listed from 1938 to 1965.
The Savannah Morning News reports (http://bit.ly/2hfsAKJ ) the terminal was the hub of city bus traffic in the community for nearly 30 years. It served the city until 1965 when Greyhound built a new terminal on Oglethorpe Avenue.
The historic designation would mean the building is worthy of preservation and may also be eligible for tax provisions and federal money to help maintain the property.
