Officer-Involved shooting in College Park
COLLEGE PARK, Ga. - State investigators are trying to piece together an incident that lead to a shooting involving College Park Police on Saturday.
It happened on Old National Highway. College Park Police said Yahya Nalm Shakur, 46, who was driving a semi-trailer truck in an “unsafe manner” when they tried to pull him over. Police said Shakur refused and instead pointed his truck towards the officers. Police opened fire, striking the tires and engine. Shakur was not hit. Police said they had to use a Taser, but said Shakur continued to not comply with the officer’s commands.
Shakur was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, reckless conduct, reckless driving, obstruction, and DUI less safe.
No officers were injured during this incident.
The College Park Police Department asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to look into the incident. They will hand the results over to the Fulton County District Attorney's Office.
