Dallas Shooting: Dallas ISD officer wounded in Sam's Club parking lot

DALLAS - A Dallas ISD police officer was shot while trying to help someone near the Walmart and Sam’s Club stores in Northwest Dallas on Thursday morning.

What we know:

It happened around 11 a.m. outside the shopping center off the LBJ Freeway near Midway Road. There are Walmart and Sam’s Club stores in that area.

Images from SKY 4 showed dozens of police vehicles from multiple agencies in the store parking lot and in the alleyways near the scene. Crime scene tape surrounded a police vehicle and blood stains.

The Dallas Independent School District confirmed the injured officer was one of their employees who was assisting someone off campus. 

Sources told FOX 4's David Sentendery that the suspect flagged the officer down while having a medical episode and the officer was ultimately shot in the leg.

The officer was taken to Parkland Hospital with injuries that are critical. He is currently in surgery, according to FOX 4 sources.

The suspect was reportedly taken into custody.

What we don't know:

Officials have not yet released any information about the suspect.

The details on what led up to the shooting are also still unclear.

This shooting does not appear to be related to another officer-involved shooting that happened around the same time just a few miles away in a North Dallas neighborhood, but FOX 4 is still working to get clarification.
