Off-duty Atlanta police officer stabbed after hit-and-run on I-20 on Saturday

An off-duty Atlanta police officer was stabbed multiple times during a confrontation in Rockdale County on Saturday.

What we know:

According to the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office, the incident began with a hit-and-run around 6 p.m. Jan. 18 on Interstate 20 eastbound near Panola Road in DeKalb County. At that time, a Dodge Charger allegedly struck a Chevy Silverado and took off.

The Atlanta Police Department said the crash happened in Conyers, and escalated to a road rage incident.

The driver of the Chevy Silverado followed the Charger into Rockdale County near Salem Road.

When the Charger pulled into a parking lot off Wall Street, the driver in the Silverado followed. The two drivers began arguing and the alleged attacker, 37-year-old Justin Perry Hurst, stabbed the victim multiple times.

The victim, who was later identified as an Atlanta police officer, was transported to a hospital in Atlanta for treatment.

Just before 7 p.m., the Atlanta Police Department announced the officer had been released from Grady Memorial Hospital and is recovering. 

What you can do:

The attacker fled the scene, and he is now being sought by the local authorities.

His last known vehicle was a white 2019 VW Passat with Georgia tag CWC3082. Hurst has ties to the Alpharetta area and is considered armed and dangerous.
