A DeKalb County family who thought their son was missing received news that no parent wants to hear Friday.

Police say 24-year-old Jason Williams was actually killed in a gas station parking lot earlier this week.

Officers said the Georgia State student was at a Citgo station on Columbia Drive Tuesday with someone he knew.

Williams reportedly went inside with the person and nothing happened was out of the ordinary, until the pair returned to the car.

"Then from the time they left the Citgo station and went into the car in the parking lot ... that's when Mr. Williams was shot" DeKalb County Police's Shiera Campbell said. "We don't know what transpired."

Investigators are now reviewing footage from surveillance cameras at the gas station to piece together what happened.

Police are still looking for the gunman.
