Monroe woman in custody for abusing three great-grandchildren
MONROE, Ga. - A 70-year-old great-grandmother wanted for "horrific acts" of child abuse against her adopted children turned herself in on Monday, according to Monroe Police.

Monroe Police searched for Brown for more than a week.

Chief Keith Glass said Brown knew she had several warrants out for her arrest. His officers took out 10 warrants against the 70-year-old great-grandmother for what he called horrific acts of child abuse against her own relatives.
"Some of the mental abuse, in this case, the toughest I've seen. It was just malicious," said Chief Glass.
According to the chief, Brown physically and mentally abused her great-granddaughters, ages 7 and 10, and her 11-year-old great-grandson at her home on Oakwood Lane for at least the last six months.
Chief Glass said Brown was awarded custody of the children in 2013 after their meth-addicted mother was no longer able to care for the children and their grandmother was no longer in a position to help. The chief said the older two are developmentally delayed and were subjected to disturbing forms of mental abuse for making mistakes at her home.
In mid-June, Brown's daughter called the Division of Family and Children Services to report allegations of abuse. The police report indicates the children were repeatedly punched and kicked all over their bodies--including their private areas. Investigators discovered ice baths and food deprivation were allegedly used as forms of punishment when the older children had bathroom accidents or left wrinkles in their bed sheets. According to the chief, DFCS removed all 3 children on June 23.
"From what I've reviewed, this far exceeds any acceptable form of discipline at all," said Chief Glass.
The chief said Brown went to the Monroe Police Department for a copy of the police report after DFCS took the kids and disappeared.
