A local organization is making sure kids are headed back to school in style.

Samaritan's Feet International gave away 650 pairs of shoes at a back-to-school shoe distribution.

BB&T sponsored the event.

The organization gave each student a new pair of shoes and socks.

They also had their feet cleaned by community volunteers.

"To the kids that are coming here these are new shoes that they probably would not get but for this outreach," BB&T's Derold McIver said. "We're also counseling and talking to the kids as we're washing their feet and giving them the new shoes. Hopefully it's more than a new pair of shoes. Hopefully it's inspiration that will last a lifetime."

Organizers say they hope students are uplifted by the event and encouraged for the next school year.
