A Prince George’s County police officer opened up his heart and his wallet to help a mother and her 1-year-old daughter.

According to a Facebook post from Prince George’s County police, Corporal Che’ Atkinson saw the woman and her young child sitting in the lobby of the District I station in Hyattsville on Wednesday morning. The mother told Atkinson that she was a domestic violence victim and recently became homeless.

Determined to help, Atkinson tracked down a distant relative who planned to pick up the mother and daughter, but they were still sitting in the lobby the next day.

After learning family members would not pick them up until Friday, Atkinson used his own money to rent the woman and her child a hotel room. He also bought them food and drinks because they had apparently not eaten in days.
