Man dead following deputy shooting in Spalding County

SPALDING COUNTY, Ga. - The GBI is investigating a deputy-involved shooting that left one man dead.

The incident happened just after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at a home off Bonnie Ridge Drive in Spalding County.  According to the Spalding County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the house and tried to talk to a man after his family reported he was in "mental distress." 

Deputies trained in crisis intervention worked to resolve the situation. That's when authorities said the man pulled out a gun, pointed it at deputies, then fired shots. Officials said a deputy returned fire, killing the man.

According to the sheriff's office, no deputies were injured in the incident.

The Spalding County Sheriff's Office went to Facebook asking for prayers for the man's family and the deputies involved.
