LaGrange police: Kidnapping of 3-year-old was made up, mother arrested

The mother of a 3-month-old boy has been charged with filing a false report of a crime after telling a LaGrange police officer that her ex-boyfriend kidnapped her child during a breakup.

According to the LaGrange Police Department, Michell Castillo initially told investigators she had an argument with Jesus Javier Perdomo Fanaite at the Motel 6 on Lafayette Parkway earlier in the day after calling 911 around 3:35 p.m. Thursday to report a kidnapping in progress at a home along Youngs Mill Road.

Castillo reported that her ex-boyfriend followed her to a nearby mall, took her infant son from her vehicle, and fled with the 3-month-old in his arms. The man was located and arrested around 5:42 p.m., and the child was safely returned.

The man was booked into the Troup County Jail. However, by Friday afternoon, investigators had learned that the whole story was made up, causing the kidnapping charges to be dropped.

Fanaite remains in jail on previous warrants issued by other jurisdictions.
