Man arrested in northeast Atlanta SWAT standoff identified

ATLANTA. - Police have identified a man arrested after a SWAT standoff at a northeast Atlanta apartment complex over the weekend. 

It started with a noise complaint Sunday afternoon at the Colony Hill apartments on 15th Street, according to police. Responding officers said when they got there, John Meredith was inside the apartment and refused to come out. 

Officers said they could hear Meredith yelling and banging on the walls with what sounded like a hammer. A SWAT team was eventually able to enter the unit and a chemical irritant was used. 

Meredith has been charged with criminal damage to property.
