A local family suffered a big financial blow Thursday after someone made off with their car full of back-to-school supplies and clothes.

Maggie Wood told FOX 5 News that a thief stole her 2004 Ford Expedition with $700 worth of merchandise inside from the parking lot of the AMC Southlake 24 movie theater in Morrow. Wood said the crime happened while she and her three children watched a movie at the theater on Mount Zion Circle. Her family couldn't believe what happened after enjoying a day of fun.

“Thank God for my blessings. Whoever did it gave us the opportunity to get into the store. They didn't approach us.  None of us got hurt,” Wood said.

Wood said the stolen vehicle is red with gold trim and hail damage on its hood. She said she won't be able to replace her children's items. They will have to use what they already have on hand for the new school year.

A spokesperson for Morrow Police confirmed that officers are investigating the car theft.
