Man shoots, kills his grandfather in DeKalb Co.

A 77-year-old grandfather was shot and killed by his own grandson in DeKalb County. Police identified the suspect as 34-year-old Jamal Nicholl. He was arrested without incident.

Lithonia police are investigating a tragedy in the 7000 block of Dean Court where a man reportedly shot and killed his grandfather.

Police say it happened around 7 p.m. Sunday.

The victim's step-son did not want to go on camera, but he told FOX 5 his stepfather was a Vietnam veteran who had dementia.

Police haven't uncovered a motive for 34-year-old Jamal Nicholl allegedly killed his grandfather, but say he was immediately taken into custody.

"The Lithonia Police Department expresses its deepest condolences to the victim's family," a spokesperson for the department said. "This is a truly heartbreaking event, and our thoughts are with the affected loved ones during this difficult time."
