Atlanta police update on officer-involved shooting

Atlanta police gave a news conference on a deadly officer-involved shooting. Police said there was a "discussion" followed by a "struggle" over the gun that went on for several minutes.

An off-duty Atlanta Police Department officer shot and killed a man at during an altercation on Wednesday afternoon on Lenox Road officials said.

Police said the uniformed officer was working an approved part-time job at the Lenox Village business complex at the 2700 block of Lenox Road. 

Police said there was a "discussion" followed by a "struggle" for the officer's gun that went on for several minutes. The officer shot the man, who died from his injuries. 

Police said the officer was uninjured.

Police responded to the call of the officer-involved shooting at around 3 p.m. Police haven't explained what caused the struggle. 

The Atlanta Police Department requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to look into the incident.
