Gwinnett County Police Department said a SWAT standoff that activated in Lawrenceville is over. 27-year-old Tyrone Porter is now in police custody.

Authorities say Gwinnett officers were helping the Lawrenceville Police Department serve an arrest warrant on the 700 block of Windy Hill Point. During the attempt, the suspect barricaded himself inside the home.

"The suspect was wanted for obstruction, battery and also a parole violation out of Illinois," said Cpl. Deon Washington with Gwinnett County Police.  "When officers attempted to execute that arrest warrant he barricaded himself inside of the home."

Gwinnett County Police said when authorities arrived, Porter barricaded himself in the attic and would not come out.

"Next thing you know we see police cars coming out like bat out of hell," said Tina Logan who lives inside the Green at Hillcrest Apartments where the incident occurred.

Investigators said there was a woman and four young children, ages five to ten, inside the apartment when Porter barricaded himself in the attic.

Logan is a friend of the woman and said she became very concerned.

"I was hoping no one got hurt," said Logan. "Thinking of her children."

Police said after about two hours Porter surrendered. Porter was taken to the Gwinnett County Jail.

The woman inside of the apartment told FOX Five’s Nathalie Pozo she and the children are doing ok.
