Lawn Decorations Stolen from Assisted-Living Community
EAST COBB, Ga. - Members of an East Cobb assisted-living community want to know where their cherished lawn ornaments have gone. "I miss the sheep. They were so cute and suddenly there were only two, and now one," says visitor Mary Williams.
If you’ve driven down Johnson Ferry Road lately, you may have spotted three sheep sitting together in front of Arbor Terrace. However, you’ll only find one now because two of the sheep have disappeared. Arbor Terrance said the first sheep went missing around Halloween and the second vanished one week before Thanksgiving. They suspect teenagers to be behind it, but police haven’t had any leads in the case.
Donna Pruden was with her mother at Arbor Terrace Wednesday afternoon. She says all the residents are talking about the missing sheep. 'We only have one sheep, and he's looking awfully lonely," says Pruden.
Executive Director Caroline Weldon says the sheep have become the unofficial mascots of the facility. They dress up for parades and holidays, and they were slated to be the focal point of this Christmas decorations. "Now we only have the one sheep dressed up as a reindeer, but we were really looking forward to our group of three," says Weldon.
People who live nearby have offered to help. Weldon says some have wanted to donate money to buy new sheep, others are planning to decorate the lawn for the holidays so residents have something to look at in place of their treasured sheep. "I've gotten phone calls from people asking how they can help get the sheep back and wanting to know if they can be part of a rescue party," says Weldon.
The lawn decorations cost $250 each and were purchased to gain attention. The facility said having just one doesn’t stand out very well.
With all the attention the missing sheep are generating Executive Director Caroline Weldon hopes the sheep will somehow wander back home. In the meantime they're protecting the remaining sheep by weighing it down with sand and bringing it in at night.
