Kittens rescued from blaze in need of new home

Two kittens miraculously survived a fire on Andrews Street that took the lives of six people last week.

The LifeLine Animal Project group shared photos with FOX 5 News of two distraught kittens found on a burned mattress in the destroyed  home.

They belonged to the homeowner Ernest Eberhardt.

Neighbors also say they saw the two kittens going in and out of what remained of the house all day as if frantically looking for someone.

LifeLine Animal Project cat trapper and LifeLine's Fulton County Animal Services Animal Control Officer were able to catch the kittens, and they are now available for adoption at LifeLine's Fulton County Animal Services shelter.

Employees say the six-month-old kittens are very attached, and need to be adopted together.

The victims in the fire have been identified as Gene Spurley, 62, Velma Rivers, 46, Anthony Jones, 49, and 54-year-old Anthony Brown. Two other people also died in the blaze.

Atlanta Fire Rescue Sgt. Cortez Stafford said that while the blaze doesn't appear to be arson, authorities are looking into every possible cause.
