King Center holds Salute to Greatness Awards gala

ATLANTA (FOX 5 Atlanta) - The Salute to Greatness Awards gala has returned to Atlanta to observe the 90th birthday celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The event raises funds to support free events throughtout the year and assists with nonviolence work and training activities.

The Salute to Greatness award is one of the King Center's highest honors.

One of Saturdays honorees was the late Arizona Sen. John McCain.

His wife Cindy McCain accepted the award on his behalf.

Others honored that night were Starbucks Chairman Emeritus Howard Schultz, President of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Dr. James R. Downing, and former basketball player and humanitarian Dikembe Mutombo.
