King's daughter, Dr. Bernice King was among those in attendance during a news conference.

She said even though the holiday honors her father, she also likes to commemorate her mother because she said she helped his legacy live on.

King's wife Coretta Scott King established the King Center in 1968.

So officials said this is a huge milestone for the center being that it is the 50th King holiday observance that the King Center has commemorated.

The annual King Day Commutative Service will take place Monday starting at 10 a.m. That service can be seen on FOX 5 Atlanta.
