The trial of a man charged in the 2015 death of a Savannah State University student has ended in a mistrial.

The Savannah Morning News reports that jurors told a judge Friday they could not reach agreement on any counts faced by 25-year-old Justin Stevens.

Jurors deliberated more than eight hours over two days before informing the court of their deadlock.

Christopher Starks, a 22-year-old Savannah State junior and aspiring musician, was shot and killed on Aug. 27, 2015, during an altercation in the student union building on campus.

Stevens, who was not a Savannah State student, pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, aggravated assault, and firearms violations in connection with the slaying.

Chatham County District Attorney Meg Heap said the case will be re-tried.
