How to support Operation Oreo to support the military

ALPHARETTA, Ga. - Sweet treats line the altar of a church in Alpharetta waiting to be shipped to members of the U.S. military worldwide.

Packages and packages of Oreos fill part of the sanctuary at Alpharetta First United Methodist Church.

The cookie donations are for Operation Oreo, an annual effort by the church to give back to service men and women around the world.

Church members said it all started nearly a decade ago. Their senior pastor was on a plane and happened to sit next to a soldier returning home from overseas.

Each package of Oreos comes with an encouraging note thanking troops for their service.
