Homeowners with controversial sign go to court

The Farmers Branch homeowners with the controversial sign in their yard went to court on Tuesday.

The neighbor-vs.-neighbor feud they’re involved in started back in February over the issue of barking dogs, but escalated to security cameras and calls to police.

The Price family’s “House for sale by owner because my neighbor’s a douchebag,” sign on Pebble Beach Drive isn’t going anywhere soon, but the fight over their barking dogs is now going to trial.

“It’s not fair, and I think I have to prove our dogs don't bark all the time like [my neighbor] says that they do,” said Lisa Price.

The Prices say that about six months ago, their neighbor asked them to quiet their dogs.

Lisa Price says they did, and thought things were settled until early last month, when she got a citation from the city about barking dogs.

That's when the sign referencing feminine products went out, the neighbors’ cameras went up and tempers boiled over.

But do the vulgar signs cross the line?

“If something is, let's say, openly inflammatory, very incendiary, you get into the public nuisance side of things and then the police department gets involved,” said Farmers Branch spokesman Tom Bryson. “Building officials have looked into the situation and determined it's not something that the city has any jurisdiction to get involved in.”

Since FOX 4’s first report, Lisa Price says she's gotten both positive and negative feedback, including hate mail from as far away as Las Vegas.

She says the hate mail doesn’t affect her decision, though.

“I think it's funny,” said Price. “I think it's funny. I think whoever sent this probably needs to get a life…don't judge me until you've walked a mile in my moccasins.”

Price’s neighbor has not been immediately available for comment.

The Prices decided for a jury trial as opposed to paying the ticket.

That's scheduled for October.
