Hit-and-Run Driver Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison

A hit-and-run driver accused of intentionally hitting a cyclist in Morningside has been sentenced.

A Fulton County judge sentenced Joseph Alan Lewis to 15 years in prison. Prosecutors said he hit 51-year-old Gregory Germani on Flager Avenue near Montgomery Ferry Road, dragged him nearly 50 feet and then left the scene.

Germani suffered a traumatic brain injury and is still in rehab.

Germani spoke to reporters minutes after the sentencing.

"To see everyone supports you and is on your side, that's really powerful," said Germani.

Lewis will get credit for time served. Police arrested him in July.
