A man is dead and woman injured after a shooting that happened along Interstate 85 near Cleveland Avenue Wednesday morning, Atlanta police confirmed.

Authorities told FOX 5's Deidra Dukes that the couple both suffered gunshot wounds to the head. They were reportedly found by Highway Emergency Response Operator (HERO) personnel, who thought they were asleep in a SUV. The HERO operator said he saw the gun in the woman’s hand, but the man took the weapon and shot himself in the head once he moved away.

SKYFOX 5 flew over the scene as several northbound lanes of Interstate 85 were shut down after the shooting. Portions of the busy highway remained closed as homicide detectives combed over the scene.

The man has been identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office as Andre Cambrice, 56, of Atlanta. An autopsy is expected performed on his body.

The woman, who was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition, was identified only as being in her 30s.

Police said they found a weapon and shell casings in the vehicle.

Investigators are trying to determine if this was a double suicide or a murder/suicide.

The circumstances that led to the shooting were not immediately clear. The names of those involved have not yet been released.
