Henry County Family Serves up Thanksgiving Love

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. - A Stockbridge family went the extra mile to make this Thanksgiving very special for a group of Henry County firefighters and emergency medical technicians.

The Adkins have 15 children, ages 2-22  years old. Many of their children pitched in to prepare and deliver a fully-loaded Thanksgiving dinner to the men and women at Henry County Station 3 on Highway 42. The special delivery turned out to be blessing in more ways than one.

The firefighters told FOX 5 the turkey they were planning to deep-fry Thanksgiving morning went missing overnight. No one is sure who is responsible for the "fowl play," but the firefighters said they scrambled to find a thawed turkey they could prepare for today.

They were stunned when the Adkins arrived just after 1 p.m. with bags, pans and trays full of food.

"We were scrambling, so to see them do something like this when they have so many people in their own family to feed is just amazing. I just can't believe it," said  Henry County EMT Mickie Bradshaw.

Her husband and six-month old daughter were on-hand to enjoy the unexpected gift.

The Adkins enjoyed an extensive  tour of the McDonough fire station, but said the best part of the day was giving the first responders a holiday they won't soon forget.

"It's all about giving back. Not what am I eating and where am I shopping. It's about spreading love and I'm glad we could do that," said 23 year old Jonathan Adkins, who is the fourth-born child. His 16-year-old sister said the experience was a blessing for the entire family.

"The fact that we were able to help out and didn't even know their turkey was gone...that's just awesome. It's just nice to make people smile," said seventh-born child Victoria Adkins.
