The Gwinnett County District Attorney is seeking the death penalty against a man accused of torturing and killing a man and his mother last August.

Danny Porter filed a motion on Monday against Rickey Taylor, 28, of Norcross, who was indicted on 19 counts last year, including malice murder, armed robbery, and false imprisonment, in connection with the deaths of 61-year-old Nicola Sramek and 29-year-old James Sramek.

Police said the family members were found in a Barrington Hills Apartments on Chelsea Park Lane on August 4, 2016, dead from apparent blunt force trauma and stab wounds. Investigators said they were able to link Taylor to the crimes through surveillance footage and physical evidence found at the scene.

Authorities said Taylor went on a crime spree that included several armed robberies in the Norcross area. He was arrested for one of those robberies on August 6, 2016, and was later linked to the murders.

Officers believe robbery was the motive.
