A Friday night stroll on the Beltline became quite the scare, when Jeffrey Landau and his roommate were ambushed by a gunman.

"Someone came up from behind us, pulled a gun on us, and demanded our stuff," said Landau, who lives off the Beltline.  "[I] had a gun to my stomach. The whole thing lasted about 20 seconds," he said.

The ordeal happened earlier this month, around 10 p.m., as Landau and his roommate walked the trail from the Krog Street Market back towards Ponce City Market, and had just passed the Old Fourth Ward Skate Park.

He said there were plenty of people walking about, but the robber ambushed him in a dark corner of the Eastside Trail; he and his roommate found a pedestrian and called 911 from their phone.

Atlanta Police told FOX 5 there have been two robberies this year on the Eastside Trail, and caught the robbers involved in an incident this past March; last year there were no robberies.

Police said there were a million people estimated to have walked the Eastside trail last year, with more expected this year.

Officers have boosted patrols in search for the latest robbery suspect, and said the trail remains a safe place for pedestrians.

Police advise pedestrians around the city to always be aware of their surroundings in dark places at night, and avoid talking on their cell phones or displaying their belongings.
