Griffin businesses raided in gambling investigation
GRIFFIN, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - Several businesses in Griffin have been raided as part of a lengthy investigation of possible gambling violations, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced Wednesday.
Authorities obtained search warrants for four businesses, according to the GBI:
- Super Speed Zone, 678 North Expressway
- Freeway Save More, 361 North Expressway
- Triple 8 Grocery, 401 North 9th Street
- H & M Food Mart, 627 West Solomon Street
Agents said they collected evidence related to crimes of commercial gambling and seized monetary assets gained from the illegal use of gaming machines.
The GBI said the businesses were using Coin Operated Amusement Machines and customers were receiving cash payouts, which is against the law. The machines must be licensed by the Georgia Lottery, and credits can only be exchanged for lottery tickets or store merchandise.
Several agencies were involved in the investigation, including GBI, the Griffin Police Department, the Georgia Lottery Corporation and the Georgia Department of Revenue.
