A 5-year-old girl from New York, who lost her family in a fire that was intentionally set, has captured the hearts of millions after her story went viral on social media this month.
It was Safyre Terry's one wish for the holidays: to receive Christmas cards from around the world.
"I really think I am dehydrated from crying so much... This is absolutely amazing, it takes my breath away. We, my family and I have been through so much darkness of this this world," a family member shared on Facebook.
The little girl lost her father and three siblings in a house fire caused by arson. The young girl was found in the debris next to her father. He used his body to shield her from the flames. However, Safyre suffered severe burns, and in the months following the fire she lost her right hand and left foot.
She now lives with her aunt, Liz Dodler. Her aunt purchased her a Christmas tree to hang cards on and took to Facebook to share Safyre's wish. Since then, the response has been amazing. She has received cards from every state in the U.S., Dubai, Australia, France, Brazil and many other places!
Over the weekend, Safyre got to meet two very important people: Mr. and Mrs. Claus! On Facebook, new pictures were shared of the little girl on Santa's lap. She was all smiles!
